In our Shady Glen project, we transformed an underutilized area of the home into a layered bar and lounge space designed for both everyday living and effortless entertaining. The goal was to create a cohesive moment; one that feels architectural, warm, and seamlessly integrated into the surrounding living areas.

Anchoring the space is a custom built-in bar in white oak cabinetry, bringing warmth and natural texture to the design. Porcelain countertops were selected for their durability and subtle veining, offering a refined contrast to the wood tones while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic. Panel ready refrigerator drawers and a built-in pebble ice maker are seamlessly integrated into the millwork, preserving the furniture like quality of the cabinetry while elevating functionality.

Floating white oak shelving above the bar offers an opportunity for curated styling; glassware, ceramics, and sculptural objects adding personality and warmth. Together, the layered materials, thoughtful lighting, and bespoke millwork create a space that feels elevated yet approachable, designed to evolve with how the homeowners live and gather.

Behind the television, custom wall paneling introduces depth and rhythm through a reeded detail, adding a quiet layer of texture that feels both contemporary and timeless. Flanking the TV, sculptural wall sconces provide soft, ambient lighting and a sense of symmetry, framing the media wall with understated elegance. Below, a custom built in with integrated bench seating extends the millwork across the wall, blurring the line between cabinetry and furniture while inviting casual lounging and conversation.

The furniture palette was carefully curated to balance structure with softness. Lounge chairs with sculptural wood frames and deep, moody upholstery introduce contrast against the lighter millwork, while woven cane detailing adds an organic layer that echoes the natural materials throughout the space. A mix of soft textiles and tailored silhouettes creates a relaxed yet elevated seating arrangement inviting conversation while maintaining a refined visual rhythm.

A custom area rug grounds the seating zone, softening the architecture and adding subtle pattern and texture underfoot. Accent tables in dark, matte finishes provide visual weight and functional surfaces without competing with the millwork, while layered pillows in tonal patterns bring depth and warmth to the benches.
Together, the bespoke millwork, thoughtful lighting, layered materials, and curated furnishings create a space that feels both elevated and effortless designed not just to be seen, but to be lived in.

This transformation reflects our design philosophy: spaces that are beautiful, functional, and deeply intentional where architectural detail, comfort, and craftsmanship coexist in perfect balance.
