Hidden Hills Kitchen Remodel: From Fragmented Layout to Refined California Casual

April 14, 2026

When we first walked into this Hidden Hills home, the kitchen felt disconnected from the way the family actually lived. While it had generous square footage and beautiful natural light, the layout wasn’t serving its full potential.

A powder bathroom sat in what should have been valuable kitchen real estate, and a small, undefined “office” area created visual clutter and broke up the flow. The cabinetry leaned overly traditional, the finishes felt dated, and the space lacked both warmth and intention.

Our goal was to completely reimagine the layout creating a kitchen that felt expansive, highly functional, and effortlessly elevated, while still staying true to our signature Refined California Casual aesthetic.

This remodel was a true transformation, both structurally and aesthetically.

Reworking the Layout

We began by reclaiming square footage in the most impactful way:

  • The powder bathroom was removed to make room for a functional and beautifully integrated pantry space
  • The unused office nook was reimagined as a custom bar, adding both purpose and a moment of design interest
  • Opened up sightlines to create a seamless connection between the kitchen and surrounding spaces

The result is a layout that feels intuitive, expansive, and designed around how the home is actually used.

A Statement-Making Island

At the heart of the kitchen is a large waterfall island, designed to anchor the space both visually and functionally. The scale allows for generous seating, everyday gathering, and effortless entertaining. Warm wood detailing paired with natural stone creates that perfect balance of softness and sophistication.

A Layered, Light-Filled Palette

We leaned into a palette that feels timeless yet fresh:

  • Soft, warm whites
  • Light, natural wood tones
  • Subtle veining in the slab backsplash and countertops
  • Aged brass hardware for warmth and contrast

This combination brings depth without overwhelming the space.

Custom Cabinetry + Mixed Materials

A blend of painted cabinetry and white oak adds dimension and interest. The bar area introduces a slightly moodier moment with:

  • Glass-front upper cabinets with dark framing
  • Integrated refrigeration for wine and beverages
  • Tailored storage that feels elevated yet highly functional

Elevated Details That Make the Space

It’s always the details that truly define a space:

  • Custom hood design that feels architectural yet understated
  • Full slab backsplash behind the range for a seamless, high-end look
  • Pot filler in a warm brass finish both functional and beautiful
  • Statement lighting that adds softness and sculptural interest
  • Arched architectural moments that subtly tie into the overall home design

Every element was intentionally selected to feel cohesive, elevated, and livable.

The End Result

What was once a disjointed and underutilized kitchen is now a warm, inviting hub of the home designed for gathering, cooking, and everyday living.

The new space feels effortless, but every inch was thoughtfully considered from the reworked layout to the layered materials and custom details.

This Hidden Hills kitchen is a perfect example of how strategic space planning paired with intentional design can completely transform not just how a home looks, but how it lives.
